A Small RANT and then to Happy Baby Updates & Gifts

Well hello,
I am going to start off this post with a little rant... I normally don't do this sort of thing (on my blogs) but I am so SICK AND TIRED of people doing this! I am referring to when a couple has been together for a whatever length of time, and someone (normally a female) goes up to the woman in the relationship and asks, "So when are you and <insert boyfriend's name here> going to get engaged!?"  (and sometimes they like to ask this obnoxious question in front of the guy she is dating!)

Now comes the part where the woman has to feel awkward while politely smiling and answering, "I don't know?"
WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?! I remember I HATED this when people would ask me this before Mark proposed. Listen people, the women in the relationship does not know when the man is going to drive over to the jewelry store and purchase the engagement ring...SO DO NOT ASK! It is so rude and is asked way too often. I am ranting about this because I have gone through it, watched friends of mine that were put in this awkward position, and then I read it on a friend of mine's Facebook today! If you really want to know the answer to this personal question then take the guy she is dating aside and ask HIM.

Ok, I am done... Now I can move on to happier, baby things :) I feel better now. Thank you.

Baby Update:

Almost half way there! On Tuesday Baby McGuire turned 19 weeks along!

Below: This what I receive in an email on a weekly basis: A baby update from
The Bump.com

Your Pregnancy: Week 19
Those nasty leg cramps are probably making it tough to get comfortable. One way to ease the pain: Extend your leg and flex your ankle and toes toward your knees. Or enlist your partner for a calf (and back!) massage. Good news: Your now-bulging belly should get you a little more compassion from everyone around you.

Baby's now the size of a mango!
Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil, and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

To-do:

[ tip ] Exercise is a must, but your lung capacity ain't what it used to be. Since you've got less oxygen available during pregnancy, take your workouts down a notch or two.

I cannot believe I am almost 20 weeks! It feels like yesterday that I got the "pregnant" on the pregnancy test!
Yes, I took a picture of my pregnancy test when it delivered the good news! Wouldn't you!? Plus, I had never seen a pregnancy test in my life up until this point so I was going nuts...
This pregnancy is going by so fast that I am happy that I am home and getting to enjoy every single second. I remember that in the beginning I was waiting and waiting...and waiting for a baby bump to finally appear and then overnight at about 16 weeks- BAM! A BUMP! I still have to take my 19 week picture tonight, but I went a little over 18 weeks photo last time so I just may wait until I am at 20 weeks. <plus, I don't think anything has changed since that last photo>

I would like to take this time to thank our great friends, Jared and Jacki Roche for sending us another baby gift!
With the Roches on our wedding day! 09-04-10
When we saw them for the FSU spring game (3 days after we told people that we were expecting), and Jared ran over to Bill's Bookstore (an FSU textbook and apparel store) and purchased 3 FSU onesies! Haha...her 1st outfits :)

Today, I received a package from them and had a feeling Jacki had a lot to do with this gift ;) There was pink gift wrap and Vera Bradly stationary...haha

"Because every little girl needs a sear sucker sundress! We just couldn't resist.
Love, Uncle Jared & Aunt Jacki"

The back of the dress. It came with a matching hat and  bottoms.  HOW CUTE IS SHE GOING TO LOOK IN THIS?!!?  Mark loves it too...He's a fan of the collar flap on the back (a nautical twist to it.)

Thank you, Jared & Jacki! We love and appreciate her gift very much.

A Graduation, Shopping, and More Baby Gifts!

Happy Wednesday!

haha, I totally do this when I spell Wednesday. Thank you to whatever teacher taught me this.

Today was an exciting day for my 11 year old brother in law because it was his 5th grade graduation from Bayview Elementary. After this, it is off to big kid school at St. Coleman's for middle school! I can't believe Tommy is already going to middle school...I  was at Holy Cross Hospital holding him the day he was born. I am so proud of him! He received several awards including one for getting a perfect score on the math section of the FCAT. That's super impressive to me because math has never been my thing.

Congrats, Tommy!

Later on, I went to target for just some simple t-shirts, leggings, and long cotton skirts... I knew they would have what I needed for my exercising clothes (...and who are we kidding they are usually my every day clothes.)  Hopefully I will find some cuter clothes later on that do not scream "maternity." I am not a fan of normal maternity clothing...

...what I am a fan of is this stretchy goodness on the side of this t-shirt for the belly.
*Fun part about being pregnant: no more sucking in your stomach when your feeling a little full that day, ladies!*

Next, my mom decided to take me to this fabric store in Dania Beach that she loves.  Basically, she wants me to start looking at fabric for the nursery's curtains.
...and since I am all things baby crazy these days - off we went!

These are some pictures that I took from their website:

http://www.desigfab.com/home.php

I must say, they had every single fabric you can imagine there. I was very impressed with their sales ladies and cannot wait to go back. Next time, I need to have a more specific idea of the kind of pattern I want because it was a tad overwhelming.

My mom loved this room below: it was fill of the tassels and pretty pieces that they sow onto the ends of valences, pillows, whatever...
Again, overwhelming when you don't know what you're looking for exactly but still fun.

AND THEN WHEN I GOT HOME... ANOTHER PRESENT ARRIVED FOR THE LITTLE ONE! I knew it was from Ali again because the box was addressed to
"Christina McGuire ( PoopHead )" again... I wouldn't be surprised if my UPS man just starts calling me poophead. Thanks, Ali.  ( By the way, she calls me "poophead" because I've always told Mark that girl's don't go number 2 in the bathroom - so there, now you now where the nickname comes from)

Back to the baby's gift - Ali sent me a beautiful little 4 piece set. A bib with a necklace embroidered on it, a onesie with a very cute pattern on it, ballerina socks, little leggings with  ruffles on the backside (too cute) - and I added the black bow headband that was sent the other day with it. THANK YOU, ALI :)  Your little niece will love it.

P.S. Ali is getting MARRIED IN JULY! Her mom and I are throwing her a bridal shower in about 2 weeks (I'll be blogging about it so don't you worry) and I cannot wait to see her. Ali was my very first friend that I made in college on the very first day and has never left my side since. I love her so much, and can't believe how much we have gone through together. So I thank her very much for these thoughtful gifts, and couldn't be happier for her in this new chapter of her life that she is beginning.

May 2009 - Graduation day! Only 4 years of friendship at this point and she knew me more than anyone I know besides my mother and Mark
( well actually, she probably knows the most...)
She was my maid of honor :) ..helping me with my garter on my wedding day. I am so excited to be her Matron of Honor alongside her big sister, Stephanie!

Inspiration for Nursery Decor

Hi! This blog post is for me and my ideas for our little girl's nursery more than anything (like an inspiration board)...

I have always wanted my future daughter to have a bright, colorful & South Floridian/ vintage-Cuban style room. That's pretty much what Mark and I like now as far as how we decorate our home. We like cherry woods, tropical patterns, Cuban cigars, pineapples, parrots, warm tans/greens/coral/blue colors, salt water game fish, terracotta pots, tropical flower arrangements, and candles- lots of candles...
So when it came time to think about a nursery for our little South Floridian princess, naturally, she should have a room to reflect the style.
I thought...who better than the South Florida design queen herself, LILLY PULITZER!
Lilly Pulitzer originates from West Palm Beach, FL and embodies the bright beautiful colors of this area. She also throws in designs with palms, parrots, nautical touches (for Mark - of course!), and the overall feel of tropical living.

Here are some pictures that I will be using for inspiration when it comes to patterns, colors, furniture, and fabrics when  my mother and I are decorating her nursery...

how cute is this little basket!?

I actually already have this print framed...

And as far as a little boy's nursery (one day)...I already have my ideas for that one too ;)

Gifts for the Baby

I just wanted to share some gifts that I have received this week for the baby...First, I would just like to say that I am so lucky to have amazing friends. Mark's guy friends (who I consider equally my friends now - because they are so awesome...) were SO excited to hear that we were expecting a child. I was kind of shocked to see guys SO excited about a baby. They were coming up with names, carrying bags for me, watching where I stepped, getting me things I did not even ask for haha, ect. So thank you to Jared Roche, Matt Davenport, Michael Boden, Joe Fisher, Zach Muilman, and for those not mentioned - I apologize..my pregnancy brain has kicked into full gear.

Baby's 1st teddy bear from Matt Devenport :) This was sent for her Memorial Day gift. I am sure she will be holding on tight to it on the way to FSU games. Thanks, Matt!

My mother in law gave me these today...A llama llama book (a kid favorite), a toy, and some
organic burp clothes (yum!- haha) and a lamb rattle. Thank you, Debbie! XO

Then later today the UPS man drooped this off and it was addressed to a "Christina McGuire (poophead)" on the outside of the box...Hope the UPS man liked that one.
...and inside was the baby's 1st bow!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH, ALI!!! That was very thoughtful and she now has a sophisticated black bow :)  ---I will be posting a blogpost about Ali's upcoming wedding in July!!! She was my maid of honor and now I will be her matron of honor alongside her sister, Stephanie!

This is just a little quote that I saw on Facebook today that made me smile. This is what I would always tell people when I first got married (and even still now) when they would ask me what I thought of marriage. I thought this was just something I said until today when I saw this. Glad to know someone shares my thoughts. :)
