A Graduation, Shopping, and More Baby Gifts!

Happy Wednesday!

haha, I totally do this when I spell Wednesday. Thank you to whatever teacher taught me this.

Today was an exciting day for my 11 year old brother in law because it was his 5th grade graduation from Bayview Elementary. After this, it is off to big kid school at St. Coleman's for middle school! I can't believe Tommy is already going to middle school...I  was at Holy Cross Hospital holding him the day he was born. I am so proud of him! He received several awards including one for getting a perfect score on the math section of the FCAT. That's super impressive to me because math has never been my thing.

Congrats, Tommy!

Later on, I went to target for just some simple t-shirts, leggings, and long cotton skirts... I knew they would have what I needed for my exercising clothes (...and who are we kidding they are usually my every day clothes.)  Hopefully I will find some cuter clothes later on that do not scream "maternity." I am not a fan of normal maternity clothing...

...what I am a fan of is this stretchy goodness on the side of this t-shirt for the belly.
*Fun part about being pregnant: no more sucking in your stomach when your feeling a little full that day, ladies!*

Next, my mom decided to take me to this fabric store in Dania Beach that she loves.  Basically, she wants me to start looking at fabric for the nursery's curtains.
...and since I am all things baby crazy these days - off we went!

These are some pictures that I took from their website:

http://www.desigfab.com/home.php

I must say, they had every single fabric you can imagine there. I was very impressed with their sales ladies and cannot wait to go back. Next time, I need to have a more specific idea of the kind of pattern I want because it was a tad overwhelming.

My mom loved this room below: it was fill of the tassels and pretty pieces that they sow onto the ends of valences, pillows, whatever...
Again, overwhelming when you don't know what you're looking for exactly but still fun.

AND THEN WHEN I GOT HOME... ANOTHER PRESENT ARRIVED FOR THE LITTLE ONE! I knew it was from Ali again because the box was addressed to
"Christina McGuire ( PoopHead )" again... I wouldn't be surprised if my UPS man just starts calling me poophead. Thanks, Ali.  ( By the way, she calls me "poophead" because I've always told Mark that girl's don't go number 2 in the bathroom - so there, now you now where the nickname comes from)

Back to the baby's gift - Ali sent me a beautiful little 4 piece set. A bib with a necklace embroidered on it, a onesie with a very cute pattern on it, ballerina socks, little leggings with  ruffles on the backside (too cute) - and I added the black bow headband that was sent the other day with it. THANK YOU, ALI :)  Your little niece will love it.

P.S. Ali is getting MARRIED IN JULY! Her mom and I are throwing her a bridal shower in about 2 weeks (I'll be blogging about it so don't you worry) and I cannot wait to see her. Ali was my very first friend that I made in college on the very first day and has never left my side since. I love her so much, and can't believe how much we have gone through together. So I thank her very much for these thoughtful gifts, and couldn't be happier for her in this new chapter of her life that she is beginning.

May 2009 - Graduation day! Only 4 years of friendship at this point and she knew me more than anyone I know besides my mother and Mark
( well actually, she probably knows the most...)
She was my maid of honor :) ..helping me with my garter on my wedding day. I am so excited to be her Matron of Honor alongside her big sister, Stephanie!

Inspiration for Nursery Decor

Hi! This blog post is for me and my ideas for our little girl's nursery more than anything (like an inspiration board)...

I have always wanted my future daughter to have a bright, colorful & South Floridian/ vintage-Cuban style room. That's pretty much what Mark and I like now as far as how we decorate our home. We like cherry woods, tropical patterns, Cuban cigars, pineapples, parrots, warm tans/greens/coral/blue colors, salt water game fish, terracotta pots, tropical flower arrangements, and candles- lots of candles...
So when it came time to think about a nursery for our little South Floridian princess, naturally, she should have a room to reflect the style.
I thought...who better than the South Florida design queen herself, LILLY PULITZER!
Lilly Pulitzer originates from West Palm Beach, FL and embodies the bright beautiful colors of this area. She also throws in designs with palms, parrots, nautical touches (for Mark - of course!), and the overall feel of tropical living.

Here are some pictures that I will be using for inspiration when it comes to patterns, colors, furniture, and fabrics when  my mother and I are decorating her nursery...

how cute is this little basket!?

I actually already have this print framed...

And as far as a little boy's nursery (one day)...I already have my ideas for that one too ;)

Gifts for the Baby

I just wanted to share some gifts that I have received this week for the baby...First, I would just like to say that I am so lucky to have amazing friends. Mark's guy friends (who I consider equally my friends now - because they are so awesome...) were SO excited to hear that we were expecting a child. I was kind of shocked to see guys SO excited about a baby. They were coming up with names, carrying bags for me, watching where I stepped, getting me things I did not even ask for haha, ect. So thank you to Jared Roche, Matt Davenport, Michael Boden, Joe Fisher, Zach Muilman, and for those not mentioned - I apologize..my pregnancy brain has kicked into full gear.

Baby's 1st teddy bear from Matt Devenport :) This was sent for her Memorial Day gift. I am sure she will be holding on tight to it on the way to FSU games. Thanks, Matt!

My mother in law gave me these today...A llama llama book (a kid favorite), a toy, and some
organic burp clothes (yum!- haha) and a lamb rattle. Thank you, Debbie! XO

Then later today the UPS man drooped this off and it was addressed to a "Christina McGuire (poophead)" on the outside of the box...Hope the UPS man liked that one.
...and inside was the baby's 1st bow!!!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH, ALI!!! That was very thoughtful and she now has a sophisticated black bow :)  ---I will be posting a blogpost about Ali's upcoming wedding in July!!! She was my maid of honor and now I will be her matron of honor alongside her sister, Stephanie!

This is just a little quote that I saw on Facebook today that made me smile. This is what I would always tell people when I first got married (and even still now) when they would ask me what I thought of marriage. I thought this was just something I said until today when I saw this. Glad to know someone shares my thoughts. :)

Luke's 3rd grade play & baby bump update

Good morning! I just wanted to add some cute pictures of my little brother in law, Luke, in his 3rd grade play at Bayview Elementary in Ft. Lauderdale. The play was this morning at 8AM. Their 3rd grade class read and then performed the story called,
Who Is The Strongest? [A Zuni Story].

Luke played the part of the narrator. He did a great job in his bright blue top hat! He had a squirt bottle in front of him because he was supposed to spray his friend, Nicholas, who played the part of fire. Luke enjoyed that. :-)

He did a great job memorizing all of his lines.

After the show when all the students were being applauded.

Thought I'd keep up with my weekly " baby bump" updates. Up to 17 weeks! Yesterday was very exciting for us as we got to find out that we are having a little GIRL! I am still catching myself smile when I don't even realize that I am doing it.

As far as crazy cravings and things like that go...I do not really have any. All I seem to want to snack on is fruit. I am loving melon and berries. I still make smoothies all the time after my afternoon 3 mile walks with milk, fruit, juice, and, now, some organic yogurt that my mom is dropping off at my house. (I'll come home to find new things in the fridge all the time from whole foods. Mom is pretty crazy about making sure I am eating top notch foods for her granddaughter!) And my cheat foods lately have been ice cream :) and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with a huge glass of milk (sometimes chocolate milk). My mom told me that she loved drinking big glasses of ice cold milk with me and so I guess that's why I am too...Maybe that's why I've never broken a bone or had a cavity :) Hopefully I'll pass that one on...

So that's all for now! Luke is a great little actor and Mark and I are preparing for a GIRL. (This morning before he went to work he gave me a kiss and said, "Goodbye girls..." - I pretty much melted... hahaha <3

Baby McGuire is a...........

Well, the bad news is that Mark was not able to go to my appointment with me. Today is the "last day of the month" and that means that it is the busiest and craziest day at Mark's company...He told me last night and was pretty upset about it - so was I. :( I then texted my friend, Michelle, and just told her about the Mark situation and that we were sad  but still hoping to find out what the baby was going to be...a boy or a girl! So  Michelle quickly replied, "CAN I GO??!!" So I asked Mark if that was okay and he said, "of course!" So 5 minutes later I get a text from my friend Sarah saying, "Can I come too?!?" haha So I said sure and we would see if they allowed both of them in the room. My doctor's office said yes, and they videotaped the whole thing for Mark :) Happy my girls were there with me. I later called Mark as soon as I got out of the appointment and asked him if he wanted to know now or when he got home late tonight...he said NOW. So I squealed, "Daddy's little GIRL!!!!" He was very happy and said, "my mom is going to be SO happy!" haha...Here are some pictures below...

my cold water and fruit smoothie on the way to the appointment ( I was told my many what to drink to have the baby up and moving so that we could see a clear picture!)

The flowers I bought for my mother in law. I drove to her house, poked my head in the doorway, and said
"ready for some good news?!" and walked in with her flowers...SHE CRIED AND LAUGHED AT THE SAME TIME :)  She is thrilled! After having 3 boys herself, she is ready for some bows! I had already gone to see my mom, and she is very very happy for a 3rd generation Scorpio GIRL - she will be feisty like me and my mom, ha.

My happy mother in law, Debbie - recovering from knee surgery and now happy to have something to shop for online while she rests.

WWWOOOOO HOOOOO!!!! My little girl is on the way and looks healthy :) I AM A STATE OF PURE BLISS...now to SHOPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

Crossing our fingers...Boy? Girl?

This week I have been spending time with my mother in law, Debbie. She had knee surgery on Tuesday morning at Broward General. (With that said, I want to thank Lana Farrell- my favorite nurse- for keeping an eye on her post operation! Love you, Lana!) She is doing great, and I will say that it has been nice spending time with her- just the two of us. We, of course, have been talking about all things baby...TODAY ESPECIALLY.

Tomorrow is my next ultrasound for my monthly OBGYN appointment. I was told last month that if that baby is positioned just right, we will be able to see if the little guppy is a boy or a girl...
I have been counting down the days since then for Thursday, May 31st!!! So tomorrow morning at 8AM, Mark and I will venture over to my doctor's appointment and get the ultrasound followed by the regular check-up appointment where I just ask my doctor questions and she checks the baby's heart beat, my blood pressure...ect.

I am posting this today to ask you all to join me and Mark and cross your fingers in hopes that the guppy will give us a show tomorrow!!! And if you're wondering (like many ask us) what we are hoping to have - a boy or a girl- we do not care. We would like a boy and a girl one day, so whichever decides to come first will be fine with us. (And of course, if we get 3 girls one day, I wouldn't be upset ;)  and if we have 3 boys one day, Mark wouldn't be upset ;) haha. But on a serious note:  All we hope for is a healthy and happy baby!

Some cute baby girl pictures I found...
I am obsessed with HUGE bows on baby girls.

The Beginning of "the bump" & Memorial Day 2012

Hello friends & fam!

Wanted to start blogging a bit more than I have since now I will be undergoing a lot of changes that I will want documented for Mark, myself, and our growing family to read in the future. With that said, I decided I would track my pregnancy and the growth of my tum tum! Many of you have seen ladies you know do this...week by week taking a photo of their stomach. As it may be typical or boring to some of you, it is a mind boggling and exciting thing to experience. Personally, I have ALWAYS looked forward to becoming a mother. I think I was always one of those little girls who during recess playtime wanted to "be the mom"  when we played "House" on the playground. I have always loved the idea of being a wife, running a household, and raising kids. For me, getting to see my body change and, in the end, produce me and my husband's first baby is mind blowing for me. Some girls are a bit scared or bothered when they think about their body "getting fat" or losing their figure...I AM THE OPPOSITE. ha. I am one of those people who see a pregnant woman and think it is one of the most beautiful things in life. When I found out I was pregnant, it took a while to really hit me that I was going to be actually growing a living being inside of me. So, I will be tracking the baby's growth through belly pictures because, unfortunately, I do not have an ultrasound machine in my possession.

Last Tuesday  May 22, 2012- 16 weeks pregnant
As you can see, I look like I have a gut...nothing really there yet. I had to take this one because I knew it was about to begin!
Then, not even a week later I actually look like I have a baby bump! The tiny little growth spurt happened so incredibly quick. You spend weeks and weeks and weeks WAITING for something...then BAM - a little bump! Finally. Which brings me to our Memorial Day Weekend.

This year, Jared and Jacki Roche drove down from St. Augustine to spend the holiday weekend with us. They arrived late Friday night and stayed at our place. On Saturday morning, Jared and Mark went golfing (as usual) and met us back at the house around 3 for lunch at Bru's Room in Pompano.
We then drove over to the hotel in Ft. Lauderdale for our beach weekend. :) We had a great time with Jared and Jacki. Although they live 4 hours away, we make it a point to see them when we can and they do the same for us. They are great friends and we are lucky to have them. Also, let me not forget to mention how much we love Zach Muilman :) He spent much of the weekend with us - attention ladies, he is single and I am on the hunt for a NICE girl for him (sorry Zach - if you're reading this, please don't kill me.)

At our Mexican dinner (right before the flash, Mark put his hand on my belly :)  Makes me smile at the little things he already does that shows me how excited he is to be a dad.

Me and "uncle Zach" who has named the guppy "Jack" because he says it  is a combination of Joe (Fisher) and Zach.  I like how he just assumes the baby is a boy...

My favorite picture of the weekend. HAHAHA. Oh, I love this man...

Me & Jacki  behind the hotel on the intracoastal

Jared & Mark - Tank top buddies

This is just to explain that my husband doesn't always wear awful shirts (thank GOD). It is pretty much a thing he and some of his friends do to to look as ridiculous as they can.
Last 4th of July...The start of the TACKY TANK TOP tradition. Matt Davenport  was involved in this decision...and Zach apparently missed the memo both years or is just not tacky...

And that's it! Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day!
